Modern medicine is just now beginning to explore the possibility of childbearing past menopause. Even a sixty year old woman bearing a child would produce major headlines. So think how astonishing this would be without the help of "modern medicine."

Abram and Sarah were such a couple and instead of modern medicine they had the help of El Shaddai - Almighty God. God had previously promised Abram that he would be exceedingly fruitful. "Then he brought him outside and said, 'Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.' And he said to him, 'So shall your descendants be.'" (Genesis 15:5) Even at this point Abram and Sarah were past normal childbearing. On top of this, another 25 years went by without one child much less a sky full.

It seems appropriate that God would identify himself as El Shaddai when he appeared to Abram at the age of ninety-nine to tell him that the time had finally come. "Almighty God". Only one who possessed ALL MIGHT would be able to bring this miracle to pass. God said; "I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless. And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly."(Genesis 17:1-11)

This was a monumental event in the life of Abram. So much so that at this time God changed his name from Abram to Abraham: from "Exalted Father" to "Father of a Multitude." It was at this appearance that God did several significant things.

- Established a covenant with Abraham and with his descendants.
- Changed Abraham's name from Abram.
- Promised the land of Canaan as an everlasting possession.
- Established circumcision as the sign of the covenant.

The child that God promised was born exactly at the set time that God had spoken to the old couple and they named him Isaac which means "laughter." Sarah thought it appropriate. She said; "God has made me laugh, and all who hear will laugh with me." (Genesis 21:6) As you can imagine, this occasion was joyous beyond measure.

El Shaddai is the faithful ALL MIGHTY God who keeps his promise even when what he has promised is impossible. But nothing is impossible for God. It is good to remember El Shaddai when you are waiting on God to fulfill a promise that has been a long time coming. Abraham waited a very long time for Isaac; much longer than most of us have to wait.

God showed up for Abraham and he will show up for you and me.
He is big enough - mighty enough - for our biggest and most impossible dreams.
_________________________________

Credit taken from : http://www.hannahscupboard.com/shaddai.html

Sermon Topics for OCTOBER:

Sermon Topics for OCTOBER:
(Worship Leaders Please Check!)

Date: 05 October

Combined Service in the Sanctuary @ 9.30 am

________________________________________

Date: 12 October

Speaker Ps Jeremy
Title ‘The Seven Deadly Sins: Lust’

Theme Continuing in this series we started in August, we now focus our attention on one of the most common of all human struggles – lust. To ‘lust’ after something is to cultivate a strong, and usually, inappropriate desire for something. We can lust after all types of things, though when the term ‘lust’ is used in the Bible, it is most often used in reference to ‘sexual temptation’ and the pursuit of sexual pleasure. This sermon will explore the issues at hand and will look at the negative consequences of lust when fed and acted upon. We will then see how we are to respond to inappropriate attractions and how to live our lives in a way which honours our body and which brings honour to God.

________________________________________

Date: 19 October

Speaker Ps Dixon
Title ‘Free Topic ‘

________________________________________

Date: 26 October

Speaker Mr Chew Leong Ho
Title ‘Free Topic’

________________________________________

Many Blessings to All!

Sermon Topics for SEPTEMBER:

Sermon Topics for SEPTEMBER:
(Worship Leaders Please Check!)

Date: 07 September
Combined Service in the Sanctuary @ 9.30 am
__________

Date: 14 September
Speaker Ps Jeremy
Title ‘The Seven Deadly Sins: Pride’
Theme Continuing in this series we started last month, we now focus our attention on perhaps the most deadly of all the Seven Deadly Sins – ‘Pride’. The reason it is so deadly, is because pride can stop a person from humbling themselves and recognising their shortcomings. It can also stop a person from acknowledging their need for a Saviour. Pride also drastically affects our relationship with God. This is because, as the Bible teaches, God ‘resists’ the proud. The opposite of pride is humility which is needed if we are to come to God for His grace and love to be poured into our lives.
__________

Date: 21 September
Speaker Mr Albert Tay
Title ‘Love Each Other ‘
Text: John 15:12
Theme: Mr Tay will be speaking on the theme of loving others. We know that Jesus taught that we must love God with all our heart, mind, and soul. He said this is the greatest Commandment. But straight after saying this, Jesus said we must love others as ourselves. This can incredibly hard to do. That’s because some people seem unlovable. However, when God has touched our heart with His love, nothing is impossible. Mr Tay will share how this is possible and necessary if we are to act and behave as children of God.
__________

Date: 28 September
Speaker Ps Jeremy
Title ‘The Seven Deadly Sins: Gluttony’
Theme We now come to the third message in this series and focus our attention on the sin of ‘Gluttony.’ This is possibly one of the sins we most struggle with since we live in a country with such a great and plentiful variety of food. The temptation can be for us to overeat and eat all the wrong stuff. As Christians we are to exercise self-control and to steward our bodies in such a way that we don’t abuse them. The message will help us keep mindful of these things.

Many Blessings to All!

Evangelistic Bible Study & Basic Christian Living!!!

Hello Carmel Youths!

Remember Pastor Kheng Hai’s sermon last Sunday? For the Christian, we know that our life on earth is short but our life on the other side of eternity is forever. If we really understand the implications of this, we would position our life in such a way so that we live wisely and impact as many people around us as possible. We will look at what is needed for us to do this in a practical and relevant way.
_________________________

Date: 17 August
Speaker Ps Timothy Phua
Title Free Topic
_________________________

Date: 24 August
Speaker Ps Jeremy
Title The Seven Deadly Sins: Introduction
Theme We begin a new series which seeks to highlight the most common sinful habits and patterns we fall into and how we can avoid them. In recent times, the whole concept of sin has been downplayed and in fact, many types of sin are now seen as socially acceptable. However, the Bible has never been trifle about sin. It mentions a multitude of actions, habits and behaviours it labels as sinful and which violate God’s commands. During the sixth century, a Catholic pope came up with a list of ‘seven’ such sins he drew from the Bible, which he believed were at the root of all sins. This list became known as the ‘Seven-Deadly-Sins’ and are: Pride/Gluttony/Anger/Sloth/Envy/Lust/Greed
This message will provide an introduction to the danger of these sins and highlight how we can avoid them by understanding their attraction and power.
_________________________

Date: 31 August
Prayer and Praise Service

_________________________

Many Blessings to All!

SAG!!!!

Hi youths, SAG will be implemented soon and we hope all of you would be able to attend and commit yourselves to this.

We know that life can be tough at times, and life as a Christian isn’t easy too! But God has placed Christian friends in our midst to go through this journey together! The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 4:12 that “A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” God has blessed us with unity in Christ, and we can experience this blessing in Christ by sharing our lives with our friends, encouraging them and praying with them! Indeed, it is much easier to live out our Christian lives when we have friends whom we can stay accountable to.

So...... what is SAG? It is ‘Studentl Accountability Group’. It is a program whereby you will form small groups with other youths of different ages and come together and share and pray for each other, fortnightly. Thereby, being accountable for each other’s walk with God.

There will be a leader (older youth) in your group to help you in praying for each other and sharing. You will also experience and learn how to care for others in your group ☺

There will be SAG Orientation on 20th July 10-1030.
SAG will start proper on 27th July 10-1030 and will be on every 2nd and 4th Sundays.

More details will be released to you this Sunday at Youth Service to inform you of how to sign up with your DCG leaders for this program.

Thanks For Youth Sunday!!!

Good day youths!!

"give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." - 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Thank you everyone for the strong showing on Youth Sunday!

It’s was really TERRIFIC seeing all of you turning up in red and bringing glory to the Lord with such a SPLENDID youth item performance. I thought it was a really good showing and thank you everyone for staying around to perform for the 2nd service. The hearty applause from the congregation after each dance really shows the appreciation the adults have for all the efforts we have put in over the past 3 weeks.

Special thanks go out to Sean and Beatrice, who led both services really really well! You indeed brought the congregation to worship God in spirit and in truth!

Well done also to the band comprising of Ada, Ian, Hoymeng, JC, Mark and Darran. The band was really quite impeccable that day! Well done!

Jose, you are a real natural! Great job doing the announcements and pastoral prayer.

Ushers: Bel, Rebecca, Carol, Eve, Tim, Sam, Pam: Thanks for helping out and staying back after both services to count the offering.

Thanks to Suwan and Lala, our 2 dance choreographer who stayed back one Saturday to choreograph the dance and then teach the youths the dance item over 2 Sundays. And also to Geri who through both youth items was at the back of the sanctuary, enthusiastically gesturing the next dance step.

Also to Bennett, thanks for organising the games after the services. Thanks also to those who turned up and enjoyed a round of Whacko and Captain’s Ball.

Congrats also goes out to Ant, Josh, Liz, Jon and Airika who got baptised / re-affirmed on Youth Sunday. Praise God!!

Thanks too to Ps Jeremy, who prayed for the youths who got baptised / re-affirmed and did the benediction.

And most importantly of course, thanks and glory be to God, who watched over us throughout the entire Youth Sunday proceedings and gave us a really AWESOME Youth Sunday to remember!

-----------

Photos from Youth Sunday have been uploaded @ http://good-times.webshots.com/album/563946363vWxxbC. While most can accept that He was a real historical person, opinion is divided over whether He was truly God as He claimed to be. Many opinions and theories exist. In this message, we will see that the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John do portray Jesus accurately which is in contrast to all the misinterpretations of Jesus written in the recently discovered ‘alternative gospels.’ We will see how the New Testament was compiled and why we can approach the Bible with full confidence that it is the actual Word of God which has been preserved throughout the generations.

_______________

Date: 20 July
Speaker Mr Archippus Yang
Title Free Topic

_______________

Date: 27 July
Speaker Ps Jeremy
Title Living in the Light of Eternity
Theme Despite the fact that most of the world’s population live in cities, loneliness is epidemic and many people feel isolated from others. Even in church, many feel disconnected and don’t feel they belong to anything meaningful. In this message, we will look at the fact that people were created to belong to a loving community, and that this is necessary for all of us if we are to learn how to love others and to receive love as well. We will also look practically at how we can find ‘community’ with each other by building a strong fellowship @ Carmel.

_______________

Many Blessings to All!

Hearts Aflame Youth Conference

hello everyone!

thanks to all who came down for Friendship Saturday, and those who brought friends too! i'm sure most (if not all) of us could say that it was a meaningful and impactful time for each of us... (: i wasnt around towards the end of F.S., but it was great to know that many of you indicated decisions to choose to change your life for God (e.g. by trusting Him more).!! (:

some of us at some point(s) in time (e.g. Friendship Saturday or at other times in our lives) may have made commitments to change our lives to trust God more, follow Him more and/or seek Him more etc...

what i'd like to ask each of you to consider is to trust God more, follow Him more and seek Him more regarding evangelism, or simply, sharing the good news (gospel) about Jesus Christ!

there've have been many evangelistic events or activities in church, like Friendship Saturday, Valentine's Day (previous years), Friendship Evangelism Challenge (FEC) etc... and perhaps some questions may have arisen in your minds, with all this talk about evangelism...

- what's evangelism all about?
- should i share the gospel/about Jesus Christ with my friends? how do i start?
- what's God's take on evangelism? what does the Bible say?
- does God feel for the salvation of other people?
- is evangelism important? should it be important to me? isnt evangelism just meant for some people?
- what if i dont care about evangelism or sharing the gospel?

there is actually an upcoming conference organized by Eagles (www.eagles.com.sg) on July 25th and 26th. Even in the Church, many feel disconnected and don’t feel they belong to anything meaningful. In this message, we will look at the fact that people were created to belong to a loving community, and that this is necessary for all of us if we are to love others. We will also look practically at how we can find ‘community’ amongst each other by building a strong fellowship.
________________________

Date: 29 June
‘YOUTH SUNDAY’: Combined Services (9.30/11.15am) in the Sanctuary

Many Blessings to All!

Sermon Topics for MAY

Sermon Topics for MAY:
(Worship Leaders Please Check!)

Date 04 May
Combined Service in the Sanctuary @ 9.30 am

___________________________

Date 11 May
Speaker Ps Jeremy
Title Fit for Life
Theme This message contrasts the spiritual life with the physical. Meaning that the origin of pretty much all that we do (our behaviour) first took place in our thought-life (mind). The Bible agrees with this and says that “as a man thinks, so is he.” It is important then that we learn how to align our thoughts with those of God if we are truly to become the kind of people that live God- pleasing lives.

-----------------------------

Date: 20 April
Speaker: Mrs. Alice Khoong
Title: Making Evangelism a Lifestyle
Theme: Aunty Alice will share with us practical principles on how we can make evangelism (i.e. the evangelising of our friends/family) a lifestyle rather than a difficult and frightening task to employ. It may have been something minor or it may have been so devastating that it affected your whole life and all your relationships. Experiences of rejection hurt and leave internal wounds. In this message, we will look at this topic and how God wants to help us overcome the damage so often caused by the pain of rejection.
____________________

Date: 16 March
Speaker Ps Jeremy
Title Prison-Break Part 6: Freedom from Fear
Theme Fear ties us in knots and can paralyse us. Fears of all kinds have the potential to bind us. And if fear is not something God wants us to be ruled by, then He would have made a way for His people to live free from its snare. And He has. The greatest revelation we have is the love of God and that in the face of this love fear begins to loose its grip. We will explore this topic and find ways to apply God’s remedy for any fear that may exist in our lives.
____________________

Date: 23 March
Speaker Ps Jeremy
Title Prison-Break Part 7: Freedom from Worry
Theme There are many things to worry about. Worry is ‘negative meditation’ or ‘negative imagination’. One worry feeds another so much that it becomes impossible to think of anything other than the risks and threats that could lie ahead. Worry rarely helps but this doesn’t stop us doing it. In this final message from the Prison-Break series, we will seek God’s Perspective on this subject and how He can redeem us from crippling worry.
____________________

Date: 30 March
Speaker Mr. Albert Tay
Title Free Topic
______________________________________________________________________________________

Many Blessings to All!

Sermon Topics for FEBRUARY

Sermon Topics for FEBRUARY:
(Worship Leaders Please Check!)

Date: 03 February
Combined Communion Service in the Sanctuary @ 9.30 am
____________________

Date: 10 February
Speaker Guest Speaker
Title Free Topic
Theme
____________________

Date: 17 February
Speaker Ps Jeremy
Title Prison-Break Part 1: Freedom from Failure
Theme Falling, stumbling, failing is something we all experience at various stages in our lives. In
fact its part of the human experience to stumble, to fail whenever we take risks, do new things, start a new school etc. We will all encounter failure. Some failures are easy to shake off. You get up and try again. For instance, failing your driving test is something that is unpleasant, but not overwhelming discouraging (usually). If it is God’s will for us to be liberated from the chains of oppression, then how can we view failure? And how can we overcome its effects? This message will help guide us through this and offer keys for finding freedom from the prison of failure.
____________________

Date: 24 February
Speaker Ps Jeremy
Title Prison-Break Part 2: Freedom from Anger
Theme We continue the Prison-Break series today and look at one common problem area which captivates people – anger. We all know what its like to experience some kind of anger at different times. Anger is a response to ‘emotional excitement induced by intense displeasure’. We see the results of people’s angry responses throughout our society and world, through words, attitudes and sadly at times violent outbursts. We
will try to understand the different situations that can cause us to become angry, as well we will look at what we can learn about the effect of anger, as gain some perspective from the Book of Proverbs, which will help us to bust out of this prison if indeed we are in it.

____________________

Many Blessings to All!

Love Awry & Hope Anew

Posted by Issac Ho

Dear all,

It has been a privilege sharing with all of you the story of Hosea during Youth Service. Was glad to receive some feedback from a few of you, and I guess I just kinda feel like adding a comment or two here on the blog.

It's amazing how God was able to lead Hosea to love a wife like that. Sometimes, I feel that God's greatest miracles aren't in things like creating the Heavens or turning water to wine, but more in the wonders of how Grace-ful & loving He is. I've talked to quite a few people and most people responded saying that that kind of all-forgiving love is only possible with God, not with man. I guess that is true, but perhaps our goal is for our Loves (especially that for BGR and even for our enemies) to be exactly like how God's Loves are like. (I.e. "May it be on earth as it is in heaven.")

So therein the question lies: Could you love as Hosea did? Will you rest in His power to do the same? Is there anyone whom you love that much?

Had sort of an epiphany recently which I posted on my Facebook wall. Shall end my apologetically long post by sharing it here with all of you:

Of all the things in the world, love is said to be the greatest. The Bible seems to agree with this. But all too often, how we treat love and think about it seems to be flawed...

We hurt and get hurt. We fail so often and we give up. We let the woes of the world and the things that distract us take us away from the ones we love. Futility sets in & our hearts are torn asunder. We give ourselves excuses for why we can't love or shouldn't anymore.

My friends, if you see this: Who do you love the most? If you 2 are apart, please don't give up. If mistakes have been made, heal the wounds caused. If there's a barrier between you, grab his/her hand and leap over no matter the cost. If distance separates, hold each other in your hearts.

Love always safeguards what is most precious when it is most vulnerable, it always believes in the best of each other, it looks at a future otherwise impossible, it never gives up even when heart and flesh have failed... (I Cor 13: 7 - paraphrase)

I'd love to discuss this more with any of you if there is anyone interested. Take care all, and a God-blessed New Year for everyone!

Sermon Topics for JANUARY

Sermon Topics for JANUARY:
(Worship Leaders Please Check!)

Date: 06 January
Combined Communion Service in the Sanctuary @ 9.30 am

_____________________________

Date: 13 January
Speaker Ps Jeremy
Title Prison-Break Part 1: Introduction

Theme Right at the beginning of year, we begin a new series which highlights some of the things which keep Christians in captivity to themselves, the Devil and the world. But as we read God’s Word, we know it is His will for us to be liberated from chains of oppression. This series looks at some of the issues at hand and biblical answers for us and ways we can apply them to our lives so that we can live powerful lives for Him.

Scripture None

_____________________________

Date: 20 January

Speaker Ps Jeremy
Title Prison-Break Part 2: Freedom from Depression

Theme We continue the Prison-Break series today and look at one common problem area which captivates people – depression. Depression is so common nowadays it is often referred to as the ‘common-cold’ of the emotions. God’s Word highlights that it is not His will for us to be crippled by reoccurring depression and He offers ways out of this bondage.

Scripture None

_____________________________

Date: 27 January

Speaker Mr. Albert Tay
Title Ready to Die, Prepared to Live!

Theme In this message, Mr. Tay will share with us how he has learned to develop a ‘kingdom mentality.’ This is a mentality where we understand that even though we are pilgrims on earth, we are in fact, citizens of heaven. And that once we are freed from the shackles of worrying and fear, we can live fully and grow spiritually. This will truly liberate us so that we are free to live life fearlessly and abundantly.
Scripture None

_____________________________

Many Blessings to All!

NEW - Prayer List

Hey all,

A prayer list has been put up.

Having a tough time with your exams? Experimenting with a new formation of 4-5-1, the experiment proved to be a success. Adopting a rather defensive formation with 2 defensive midfielders of Marcus and Zhi Jie, they controlled the midfield and protected the defense. Aaron Chong who played just behind lone striker Vincent added an additional option in attack. With Barnabas and Kern prowling on the wings, Carmel looked formidable.

Early into the first half, just two to three yards outside the opponent’s penalty box, our free-kick specialist, Vincent flighted the ball a tad bit too high into the air. Expecting a wasted free-kick, the ball dipped into the top left-hand corner of Church Of Our Saviour’s goal. Vincent opened the floodgate of goals with his marvelous free-kick.

A few minutes later Carmel’s lead was stretched to 2, when Kern, on the right-wing latched onto a brilliant through-ball. Blitzing past his marker and surging into Saviour’s penalty box, Kern coolly slotted the ball home.

Just before the end of the first half, Vincent got his second goal of the game when he followed through from a beautiful pass and directed his shot into an empty net after he had wrong footed the opponent’s keeper.

In the second half, Carmel’s Goldie Oldie, Uncle Sam, proved that he was still the best player for Carmel in every department. Taking an advantage from a handball foul committed by a Saviour defender, Uncle Sam rammed home a penalty that took the goal tally to 4, in favour of Carmel.

With Carmel’s goal shielded by 4 marvelous rear guards in the form of Mark, Tim, Keith and Mattheus, they defended with superb tenacity. Thwarting wave after wave of attacks, the defence held firm to deny the Saviour attackers any chance at goal.

Mark and Mattheus ran the opposing attack into the ground with precision passing and quick bursts of speed down the wings. The game truly seemed over as Saviour just couldn’t give any replies. Joel was also having a good game between the sticks as his speed allowed him to gather up any lose ball in the Carmel penalty box.

Barnabas had the chance to put himself on the score sheet after he screwed a simple chance. Uncle Sam took the ball from midfield and dribbled past half of the Saviour players as he drifted to the right and delivered a beautiful cross into the six-yard box. However, nerves got the better of Barnabas when his shot, which was saved by Saviour’s keeper because his shot came too late and too soft.

Evan soon came on for Barnabas and made an instant impact. Marshalling the attack, he raced down the right-wing and provided a lovely cross for Kern to tap in the 5th goal, which was also his second.

Mattheus gave Saviour the final nail in the coffin when he blasted home the 6th goal. Cutting into the center of the park, Mattheus took a shot and rammed the ball, which took a wicked deflection off a Saviour defender.

The victory meant that Carmel had gone 11 games without defeat as Carmel supporters; Janelle, Priscilla and Elizabeth went away from the match feeling proud for their home team.

Formation: 4-5-1

Goalkeeper: Joel Lau, (Uncle Sam, Zhi Jie)
Defenders: Mark Choo, Tim Tay, Keith Wong, Mattheus, Matthew Lau
Midfielders: Evan Foo, Marcus, Zhi Jie, Aaron Chong, Barnabas Chong, Shawn Poon, Uncle Sam
Striker(s): Vincent

Goal Scorers: Vincent X 2, Uncle Sam, Kern X 2, Mattheus

Sermon Topics for DECEMBER

Sermon Topics for DECEMBER:
(Worship Leaders Please Check!)

Date: In the final sermon of this two-month series, we will see that we can only truly overcome sinful behaviour when we understand the way the mind works and its biological function. Goals flowed freely from both sides as neither team were really focused on defense.

The evergreen Uncle Sam gave Carmel a flying start to the match shortly just after the kick-off with a superb long-range effort. Following that, in unusual fashion, the Carmel defense, marshalled by the tenacious spirit of Keith, allowed Hakka to pull 2 back within a short space of time.

We then went out in full force, with Vincent and Evan entering the game. Evan's vision and passing was superb. His free-kick found Matthew (Zhi Jie's friend), who was deputising in the centre for the departed Zhi Yang. Matthew followed on Evan's vision and created a beautiful lay-off for Vincent (a former Youth member) to slot home the equaliser.

Vincent then dribbled down the left flank and performed numerous step-overs before laying it back for Evan to pop a goal in for the lead. Aaron Lee ended a momentous first half to give Carmel a 4-2 head start, when he scored late on with a sweet volley that came from a great individual effort.
Half Time Team Talk

Hakka Methodist got an early second half goal to make it 4-3, courtesy of a weird bounce by the ball which caught our very own keeper, Joel, off guard. Kern, fresh from his earlier substitution, came on for Shawn Poon and made an immediate impact, scoring on the break to maintain Carmel's lead of two goals. Zhi Jie was the match's unsung hero. His dogged determination to win every ball in midfield as a defensive-midfielder helped shore-up the defense a healthy bit.

Two new players brought in to boost Carmel's attack were P.Chai from Thailand and Valere from Ivory Coast, playing in their second and third competitive game respectively. They performed brilliantly and dictated play in midfield. Valere's constant pressure and tough tackles unshackled the Hakka midfield. Complementing Valere's hard-hitting style of play, P.Chai added a new dimension with his precise passes and mesmerising dribbles.

However, some sloppy, yet fortunate defending saw Keith and Matthew Lau clear two possible goals off the goal line. Hakka kept up the pressure by reducing the deficit to a single goal soon after, making it 5-4. Evan was substituted in, and like Kern, reaped identical results. His new-found vigour enabled him to score another goal to make it 6-4.

Ian soon made his debut and he substituted Tim Tay at left-back. It was an impressive performance from the fledgling youngster and we know there will be many more to come. On another counter-attack, Uncle Sam was brought down in the centre of the field, due to a blatant foul by one of the Hakka players. He was given a yellow-card when he brought Uncle Sam down by pulling his shirt. However, Uncle Sam refused to react and did he did best - play fair football.

The match began heating up and Aaron Chong was brought down in a rough tackle when he ran with the ball down the right-wing. He went on a blood-rage but soon came to his senses. Barny, who substituted him later on, moved into an attacking position and connected with a decent volley from a corner-kick which went off-target.

Minutes later, Matthew had a good chance to put Carmel three up, if not for a slight lapse in concentration. He marvellously dribbled past the dumbfounded opposing keeper as he surged up field, but the shot rocketed sky-high.

Hakka were becoming desperate and started pilling on the pressure in search for a reply. Right-winger Kern pushed back into defense alongside Mark, Tim, Keith and Ian. With a five-man defense, we held firm and deterred wave after wave of Hakka attacks.

The icing on the cake came just before the end of the match when Joel, who earlier bundled the ball into his own net, stretched the lead to 3 goals. A handball in Hakka's penalty box, from Vincent’s cross, gave Joel a chance to redeem himself and he did not disappoint. Although the Hakka keeper dived correctly, the power in Joel's shot was just too much to handle and the ball slipped past the keeper's hands into an empty net.

Despite having fewer supporters, (Liz Wong, Evelyn, Sam Wong and Keith/Kerns' parents) we held on strong for a hard fought victory over our older opponents. As the final whistle sounded, cheers rang among our players and supporters alike as MCYFC stretched its unbeaten streak to 10 games. It was a fitting finale to a beautiful game.

_______________________

Formation: 4-4-2

Goalkeeper: Joel Lau

Defenders: Mark Choo, Tim Tay, Keith Wong, Mattheus, Matthew Lau, Ian Tan

Midfielders: Aaron Chong, Evan Foo, Barnabas Chong, P.Chai, Valere, Kern Wong, Zhi Jie, Shawn Chew, Matthew

Strikers: Aaron Lee, Uncle Sam, Vincent, Shawn Poon

Goal Scorers: Uncle Sam, Vincent, Evan x 2, Aaron Lee, Kern, Joel(pen)

(edited by Evan, followed by RY)

King of Kings, Majesty.

Hihi,

This is Rebecca here. I came across this song which we sang during one of the church anniversary services which I thought is meaningful and should be placed on the carmel youth blog. This series will cover important themes and issues related to relationships and sexuality, which will serve to inform us of why we do the things we do, and also to find God’s perspective in light of these things. This first message examines the contemporary culture we live in, which we know in many ways is ‘obsessed’ with sex. The objective of this message is to understand the way our culture has shaped our thinking and behaviour. Thus, this first message serves as a foundation for the subsequent messages in the weeks to come.
Scripture None

Date: 18 November
Speaker Ps Jeremy
Title “Straight Talk Series: “Contributing Influences in Relational Development”

Theme In this message, we will examine the contributing factors which influence and
shape our sexuality. This information and awareness will help us understand why we are the way we are, and also, will help to highlight areas of personal weakness we need to be aware of so that we can navigate ourselves safely through a world of sexual risk.
Scripture None

Date: 25 November
Speaker Ps Jeremy
Title “Straight Talk Series: The Lord who Redeems”

Theme This message follows through from last weeks and offers redeeming principles for overcoming sexual struggle. These will help to overturn and cancel the ‘contributing factors’ which put pressure on our sexuality, and which compete for our sexual purity. These principles and insights will help to empower us to make good choices in the light of these pressures, and to carry a greater awareness of how to gain victory in our weaknesses.
Scripture None

Many Blessings to All!

Sermon Topics for OCTOBER

Sermon Topics for OCTOBER:

(Worship Leaders Please Check!)

Date: 07 October

Combined Service in the Sanctuary @ 9.30 am

Date: 14 October

Speaker Patrick Loh
Title “Free Topic”

Scripture None

Date: 21 October

Speaker Ps Jeremy
Title “How will it End?” (Part II)

Theme A hot topic today is ‘End Times.’

Today finishes a two-part series which asks:
i) What’s going to happen before the coming of Jesus?
ii) What’s going to happen at the coming of Jesus?
iii) What’s going to happen after the coming of Jesus?
Scripture None

Date: 28 October

Speaker Ps Jeremy
Title “Don’t Stop Fighting”

Theme In the passage, we will see three things. First, Paul, who wrote this passage, wanted the young Timothy to understand that money doesn’t make people happy. Paul then goes on to say that the ‘man/woman of God’ must pursue righteousness, not money or financial gain. It is an honour to be known as a man/woman of God which is a title we can hold to if we are pursuing God with our lives. The third thing we see is that in many ways, the Christian journey is a fight. We fight to overcome our personal struggles. We must fight to overcome spiritual opposition. And we must fight and persevere to finish the race in front of us in a way that honours the name of God.
Scripture 1 Timothy 6:10-12

Many Blessings to All!

Sermon Topics for September

Sermon Topics for SEPTEMBER:

(Worship Leaders Please Check!)

Date: 02 September

Combined Service in the Sanctuary @ 9.30 am

(Ministry Sunday activities to follow)

Date: 09 September

Speaker Ps Jeremy
Title “Receiving Guidance from God”

(Empowerment [Discipleship] Series)
Theme We all struggle with making decisions and knowing what decisions are the right ones for our lives.
(Encounter [Worship] Series 1)
Theme Jesus encountered 10 lepers as He was making His way down to Jerusalem. On seeing them, He had mercy on them and healed them. As was custom with lepers who had been healed, they were to show themselves to the Temple Priest to confirm this. On doing this, one of the men returned to praise Jesus and worship Him, but the other nine did not. The leper was overwhelmingly grateful and wanted to return to worship the Giver of his blessing, and as a result He received a further blessing from Jesus – the gift of salvation.
Scripture Luke 17:11-19

Date: 26 August

Speaker Ps Timothy Phua
Title “Free Topic”

(Encounter [Worship] Series 2)

Scripture None

The Sermon Topics for JULY

Date: 01 July
Combined Service in the Sanctuary @ 9.30 am
(Rehearsal for Youth Sunday to follow)

Date: 08 July
YOUTH SUNDAY
Combined Service in the Sanctuary @9.30 am and 11.15 am
Speaker Ps Jeremy
Title "The Lord who Breaks Out"
Theme In the passage, we see how the Lord benefited the Israelites by giving King David a military strategy for fighting against the Philistines. A powerful victory was won as God directed the army and 'broke-out' against Israel's enemies. We gain the understanding from this event that God wants to give us strategies so we may breakthrough from the things which hold us back.
Scripture 2 Samuel 5:17-25

Date: 15 July
Speaker TBA
Title "Free Topic" (Empowerment [Discipleship] Series 4)
Scripture None

Date: 22 July
Speaker Ps Jeremy
Title “Life is Lived Inside Out” (Empowerment [Discipleship] Series 5)
Theme In this topical message, we see that all we are and do is a result of what we beleive about ourselves. And if we want to experience change, we need to change our thinking and renew our mind. We will explore ways in which we need to challenge our thought processes to facilitate this change.
Scripture(s) Romans 12:2/Romans 15:13

Date: 29 July
Speaker Ps Jeremy
Title “Faith will find a Way” (Empowerment [Discipleship] Series 6)
Theme In Marks Gospel, we read the story of how 4 men exercised faith in a radical way, by ripping a hole in the roof of a house, in order to lower their paralytic friend to Jesus. This extreme measure was taken because they knew this was the only chance they had to get the man to Jesus because of the great crowd inside. Jesus was amazed at their faith and i was rewarded as the paralysed man recieved full healing. We learn that God delights when our faith pushes through all limits and boundaries.
Scripture(s) Mark 2:1-5

The Sermon Topics for JUNE

Date: 03 June
Combined Service in the Sanctuary @ 9.30 am
(Fund Raising Sunday for Sec 1, 2, 4)

Date: 10 June
CHURCH CAMP IN MALACCA
Combined Service in the Sanctuary @9.30 am

Date: 17 June
Speaker Isaac Ho
Title "Free Topic"
Scripture None

Date: 24 June
Speaker Ps Jeremy
Title “Hearing the Voice of God” (Empowerment [Discipleship] Series 3)
Theme We continue our series today with the topic, ‘Hearing the Voice of God’ as the third of the ‘Christian Disciplines’ we need to live an ‘Empowered Christian Life.’ We will see from John 10, that it is possible for Christians to hear God’s voice, and how learning to listen to His voice requires determination and discipline, but will result in our Christian experience taking on a new depth and will give our faith a truly dynamic edge.
Scripture(s) John 10:1-10

Today's Menu...

But I tell you who hear: love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who mistreat you. Luke 6:27,28

Is there someone you really resent? Maybe they're in your life to teach you something!

Melody Beattie writes: "Years ago I felt I was meant to work at the Stillwater Gazette, but when a job opened up they hired Abigail. I'd always been taught to pray for those you resent, so I prayed for her, sometimes three to four times a day - that's how much I disliked her! Eventually I landed a job at the Gazette, but not the one I wanted. Abigail had that - plus all the best assignments! So I kept praying, 'God bless Abigail;' it's all I knew to do. Then after watching her I realised she was quick, efficient and a good interviewer, so I began to push myself, thinking, "If she can do it, so can I!" Abigail was actually inspiring me! Eventually I stopped resenting her and we became friends.

Soon afterwards I got an offer from a publisher to write a book and when it became a New York Times best-seller, I was glad I hadn't gotten Abigail's job or I'd never have had the time to write my book!"

Pray for whom you resent...

God says, "Love your enemies. (Proverbs 14:12)
There's a broken rope on display at the Alpine Museum in Bern, Switzerland. It's associated with a tragic story. Seven climbers who scaled the Matterhorn roped themselves together for the return descent, but one slipped and dragged three others with him into an abyss. The three remaining climbers braced for the shock on the rope that linked them together, expecting it to halt their companions' fall.

The tug came, but then to everyone's horror the rope snapped, plunging their four friends to their death. Nobody knows why an inferior rope was used for such a hazardous venture, but they do know it wasn't genuine Alpine Club rope which was guaranteed and distinguished by a red strand running through it.

Just as reliable equipment is crucial in preparing for the life-and-death adventure of mountain climbing, it's even more essential in preparing for the most important journey you'll ever make; the one from here to eternity. And an "anything-goes" attitude… loose connections to the church… casual claims that you're doing your best… and fuzzy notions about God's indulgence won't cut it.

Solomon said,"There is a way that seems right to a man, but… it leads to death."

And Peter says: "Jesus is the only One who can save" (Acts 4:12 NCV). Assurance of a place in heaven comes only through accepting Jesus as your personal Saviour, believing that He died for your sins and rose again to give you everlasting life. No more will be asked; no less will get you in. Today Jesus is waiting to save you - will you let Him?

A Little Snipplet

Dear friends,
Li Jian wants to share this little snipplet :) ...

"I have a verse for the youth e-board. One day a cynic asked him, "Why bother going when you can't hear anything?" Smiling, he replied, "Because I want people to know which side I'm on!" For some, church is a place to get Christened, married and buried (hatched, matched and dispatched). But it's more than that to God; it's His personal project.

Movements come and go, but Jesus said, "I will build My church, and … hell will not conquer it."

It's not perfect(after all, we are members), and it doesn't always live up to its own standards. But Dr. Jay Kessler says: (a) It's the only organisation that still deals with the issues: like salvation, death, judgment, grace, purpose, heaven and hell. (b) It adds value and dignity to human life. We live in a secular culture that contributes to our sense of inner worthlessness. The church counteracts this negative message by preaching God's love and acceptance. (c) It provides a moral and Spiritual compass. Society has revised, resisted and rejected absolutes, embracing relativism. But the church stands on the timeless bedrock of God's Word. (d) It's where you find compassion, healing and community. There we're all on a par. There God's Spirit is working to knit us together as believers, guaranteeing us all "equal access to the Father" (Ephesians 2:18 TM). (e) Unlike other institutions, it has motivated the most lasting, unselfish, essential, courageous endeavours on earth: like missions, schools, hospitals, food pantries, rehab centres and orphanages.

But most important is the fact that Christ Himself "is the head… Everything comes from Him… So in all things Jesus has first place" (Colossians 1:18 NCV).

Today's Menu...

Learn to be Contented

Be free from the love of money, content with such things as you have, for he has said, "I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you." (Hebrews 13:5)
Did you hear about the farmer who grew discontent with his farm so he decided to sell it? A few days later his real estate agent phoned wanting approval for an advertisement she intended to place in the local newspaper. She read it to the farmer. It described a lovely farm in an ideal location - quiet and peaceful, contoured with rolling hills, nourished by a fresh lake and blessed with well-bred livestock. The farmer said, "Read that to me again...."

After hearing it a second time he said, "I've changed my mind. Success is not defined by position or pay scale, but by this: doing the most of what you do the best. Parents, give this counsel to your children. Tell them to do what they love to do, and do it so well that somebody pays them to do it! Spouses, urge your mate to choose satisfaction over salary. "[It is] better to have little, with fear for the Lord, than to have great treasure [with] turmoil" (Proverbs 15:16 NLT).

Wise up! It's better to be married to a happy person with a thin wallet than to a miserable person with a thick one. Pursue the virtue of contentment. "Godliness with contentment is great gain" (1 Timothy 6:6 NIV). When choosing or changing jobs, be careful. Consult your design. Their parents tried everything to get the boys to change, to no avail. Finally, out of options, they ask their pastor if he can help. He says he will talk to the boys, but only one at a time. The parents drop off the youngest and go home, promising to return to get him soon.

The boy sits in a chair across from the pastor's desk and they just look at each other. Finally, the Pastor says,"Where is God?" The boy just sits there and doesn't answer.

The pastor begins to look stern and loudly says,"Where is God?" The little boy shifts in his seat, but still doesn't answer.

The pastor is starting to get angry at the boy's refusal to converse and practically shouts "WHERE IS GOD?"

To his surprise, the little boy jumps out of his chair and runs out of the office. (Song of Solomon 1:6)

Tony Campolo writes,"Growing up, I knew a man who loomed larger than life to me. He was Edwin Bailet. He ran the astronomical observatory at the Franklin Institude in Philadelphia. I would go there most Sundays just to spend tie with him. His encyclopaedic mind fascinated me. He knew something about everything. I was friends with him till he died several years ago.

"Once, after he'd suffered a serious stroke, I went to visit him in the hospital. In an effort to make small talk I told him about all the places I'd been to speak and how I'd come to his bedside right from the airport. He heard me out. Then looking questioningly at me he asked,'You go all over the world to people who, 10 years from now, probably won't remember your name, but are you taking time for those who really matter?' That question changed my life. I've decided not to let my time be used up by people for whom I make no difference, while neglecting those for whom I'm irreplaceable.

"A pastor friend of mine was recently invited to the White House to consult with the President. Quite an honour. But he said,"No," because he'd promised to be at a softball final where his son was pitching. The nation and the President survived fine without him. His son, however, never felt so loved or valued as he did that day. Get the point? Then begin putting first things first!

Gallery

Photos

Submitted by Hoy Meng.
